Green Chalice Church

First Christian Church is honored to be a Certified Green Chalice Congregation, Level Two, through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We are the second church in the state of North Carolina to earn that distinction. Green Chalice is a ministry that helps congregations live out their faith by caring for God's creation and "walking gently on the earth." Its mission is to connect Christian faith, spiritual practice, and creation consciousness as part of God's shalom.

Achieving Level Two Certification means our church has gone beyond an initial commitment. We have formed a Creation Care/Green Chalice team, adopted the Green Chalice Covenant, and taken concrete steps to make our congregation more sustainable in areas such as worship, education, building use, outreach, and care for our grounds.

For us, this is not just an environmental program. It is part of our discipleship. We believe caring for creation is one way we love our neighbors, honor the Creator, and participate in God's ongoing work of healing the world. Our Green Chalice commitment reminds us that every choice, from what we plant to what we use, to how we teach and serve, can become an act of faithful stewardship.
